(Spirit Lake)– A snowmobile accident Saturday night near the Bedell Family YMCA in Spirit Lake seriously injured a Spirit Lake man and resulted in charges being filed against the operators of the two snowmobiles that were involved.
Police say 37-year-old Michael Fisbeck of Spirit Lake was driving a 2007 Ski Doo northbound on the trail on the west side of Sunner Avenue and was crossing 41st Street when he fell off. A second snowmobile, a 2005 Ski Doo driven by 33-year-old Todd Fine of Spirit Lake, who was also northbound, then collided with Fisbeck.
Fisbeck was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. KUOO News has learned Fisbeck was then life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital with incapacitating injuries.
No injuries were reported to Fine and a passenger on the snowmobile he was operating.
A thousand dollars in damage was estimated to each snowmobile.
The incident took place shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday.
Fine was charged with operating while intoxicated…first offense; Fisbeck was cited for operating while intoxicated…third offense.
Spirit Lake police were assisted on the scene by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources; the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Spirit Lake First Responders and the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics.
