(Emmetsburg)– A collision Thursday in Palo Alto county involving a car and a semi claimed the life of an Estherville teen.
The Iowa State Patrol says 18-year-old Deborah Weideman of Estherville was southbound on Highway Four about four miles north of the junction with Highway 18 when she crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming semi that was pulling a grain trailer driven by 45-year-old Todd Travis of Mallard. The impact of the collision caused both the car and semi to go into the east ditch.
Weideman was taken by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg where she was pronounced dead; Travis was taken to Palo Alto County Hospital by private vehicle. There was no word on the nature of his injuries or condition.
Damage estimates to a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Weideman and to a 2003 Peterbilt semi driven by Travis weren’t immediately available.
The collision took place around 7:30 a.m.
Authorities say it remains under investigation.
