Improvements Planned For Portion Of 15th Street In Spirit Lake

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Badly needed improvements are in the works for a stretch of 15th Street in Spirit Lake between Hill and Hudson Avenues.

Public Works Director Dwight Dohlman present the city council with proposed plans on the project at their meeting Tuesday.

Dohlman says the traveled portion of the road will be widened the entire distance, with provisions for parking along the road included from Hill Avenue west to Peoria Avenue.

The 2.25 million dollar project would also include some storm sewer work and the revamping of some intersections. It would also likely include low impact development components.

Dohlman added there’s a possibility the project could be done in phases, possibly starting in the 2014 construction season.

Dohlman says of the 2.25 million dollar estimated cost, roughly 60 to 70 percent is eligible for funding through a federal program, which the city is applying for.
