(Spencer)– Officials with the Clay County Community Foundation have set Thursday, March 11th as the date for their annual meeting and awards ceremony.
They’ll also be announcing the recipients of slightly more than $95,000 in grants to be distributed to Clay county non-profit organizations and units of local government for various projects positively impacting the quality of life for the county’s residence.
The program begins with hors d’oeuvres being served at 6:30 p.m. with the program to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the Spencer Area Activity Center.
The Clay County Community Foundation awards grants for various projects including arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, health and human services, recreation and high impact community opportunities. Funds are intended for new projects or for the enhancement or expansion of existing services, programs or facilities and on-going operational expenses of an organization not eligible for grant funding.
Each community in the county is represented on the foundation’s board of directors, which reviews and distributes grant funds.
The source of the funding is state gambling revenues, of which eight-tenths of one percent was designated this year for distribution to counties without a state gambling license, including Clay county.
To date, the state has distributed more than 40 million dollars to qualified community foundations or their countwide affiliates.
Since the first annual distribution from the Iowa Department of Economic Development in 2005, Clay county has received more than 469-thousand dollars.
