(Spirit Lake)– The month of March has been designated Red Cross Month. And officials with the Iowa Great Area chapter are using it to kick off their annual major fundraising campaign.
Cindy Voss, the local chapter’s Executive Director, tells KUOO news it’s dubbed their “Heroes Campaign”. She says the proceeds support the local chapter, which serves Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto counties.
Voss says numerous activities are planned in conjunction with the fundraising, including babysitter training clinics, a picture coloring contest for area school children, instructor training, and so on.
Voss says if there ever was time for a need for donations to the local Red Cross chapter, this is it. She says a number of fires in the region this past year depleted the chapter’s budget for fire services. Even though that’s the case, Voss says the local Red Cross is still providing assistance to those afflicted by disaster.
Bob Kirschbaum, Fund Development Associate with the Siouxland Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, says this year’s goal of the Heroes Campaign is to raise 25-thousand dollars. He says while that seems like a lot of money, it’s important to remember there are more than 70-thousand people in the chapters five-county service area. At a rate of just one dollar per person, Kirschbaum says that would be enough to exceed the goal.
Donations may be sent to the Iowa Great Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross at 1900 North Grand Avenue in Spencer or may be dropped off at the office during regular hours.
