Baby Born At Spencer Hospital Awarded College Savings Iowa Account

(Spencer)– A baby born at Spencer Hosptial was awarded Wednesday a one thousand dollar College Savings Iowa Account, courtesy of the College Savings Iowa Baby 529 Giveaway.

The account was awarded to “baby Jillian” who’s parents, Devon and Eric Rud, received information about the giveaway program before leaving the hospital after their daughter’s birth.

The College Savings Iowa program is administered by the Iowa State Treasurer’s Office. State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald was on hand for the presentation.

The Baby 529 Giveaway awards one one thousand dollar College Savings Iowa Account each month to a randomly selected baby. All babies born in participating Iowa hospitals are eligible to win if they’re registered. 66 hospitals are currents participating in the program, providing college savings information to families before they leave the hospital.

The program is designed to give families a tax-advantaged way to save money for college.
