Divers Recover Body Of Missing Boater

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– The body of a missing boater has been recovered from West Lake Okoboji.

Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun tells KUOO news divers recovered the body of 30-year-old Chad Lenz of Carroll around 1:00 p.m. this (Monday) afternoon. Baloun says the body was recovered in about 39 feet of water south and west of Pikes Point, which was slightly south of where Lenz went into the water about 24 hours prior.

Authorities say Lenz, who was boating with his wife and two children, jumped into the lake early Sunday afternoon to try to retrieve a piece of clothing that had blown into the lake. He was not wearing a life jacket.

In addition to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, agencies that assisted in the recovery operations include Dickinson County Emergency Management, the Okoboji and Milford Police Departments, Spirit Lake Fire Department Water Rescue, Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue Dive Team, the South Central Dive Team of Trimont, Minnesota; Kooima Lake Service, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and numerous others.
