(Estherville)– A commercial intended to help sell batteries is also having a positive effect on a local community college and is putting northwest Iowa on the map.
The commercial for Duracell batteries on national television networks mentions the Wind Energy Technology program at Iowa Lakes Community College. College President Val Newhouse tells KUOO news the response they’re getting as a result of the publicity is phenomenal and is coming on both the national and international fronts.
Newhouse says they can directly attribute a significant increase in inquiries about ILCC to the Duracell campaign. She says about 70 students to date have already applied to the college as a result of the ad.
Newhouse says the national exposure northwest Iowa is getting as a whole from the Duracell campaign is huge in that other parts of the country and even the world are learning about the important role our area is playing in renewable energy and wind energy in particular.
Newhouse says Iowa Lakes Community College is also selling some commemorative t-shirts featuring wind turbines and Duracell batteries in the college’s bookstores at campuses in Estherville, Emmetsburg and Spencer. The shirts are also available through the Iowa Lakes online book store.
A dollar from every sale of the shirts goes to ILCC’s scholarship fund.
