(Sioux Rapids)– The three to five inches of rain some areas received over the weekend has sent area rivers out of their banks.
Record flooding is being reported on the Little Sioux River at Cherokee. Officials say the Little Sioux crested in that area late Sunday afternoon, but they say it will be slow to drop.
All the flooding has resulted in road closures in some areas.
A stretch of Highway 71 10 miles south of Spencer had been closed throughout the day Sunday. It was reopened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Iowa Highway Three at Cherokee remains closed to traffic. Traffic in that area is being detoured.
Officials warn some less-traveled county and gravel roads along some areas of the Little Sioux are also likely to be under water and may be impassable.
