APO Fire & Rescue Receives Donation For New Sonar

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue Unit is the recipient of a 2,300-dollar donation from the Iowa Great Lakes Association.

Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth tells KUOO news it will be used to purchase a new side imaging sonar unit that will be installed on the fire boat.

Yungbluth says the new unit has greater accuracy and image enhancing capabilitiy that will make it easier to locate objects on the bottom of the lake.

Yungbluth says a similar unit is already mounted on a DNR patrol boat. He adds having a second unit available will be invaluable in incidents such as drownings and other emergencies.

Yungbluth says they’re very grateful to the Iowa Great Lakes Association and it’s President, Phil Petersen, for the donation. He says it’s something that will benefit the entire area.
