(Sioux City)– Two Mexican men have pled guilty to federal charges of re-entering the country illegally.
35-year-old Juan Zuniga of Storm Lake and 27-year-old Clemente Lopez-Suarez of O’Brien county were both convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At a plea hearing, Zuniga admitted he was an illegal alien present in the U.S. without permission. He had been previously removed on September 25th, 1996. On March 14th, 2010, Zuniga was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Lopez-Suarez also admitted he was an illegal alien present in the U.S. without permission. He had been previously removed on November 6th, 2008. On May 3rd, 2010, Lopez-Suarez was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Sentencing for both men is pending preparation of pre-sentence reports. Both remain held in the custody of a U.S. Marshal. They face up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000 and up to a year of supervised release following any imprisonment.
