(Spirit Lake)– Separate traffic stops over the Fourth of July weekend in Dickinson county resulted in drug charges against three people.
The first stop occurred Saturday when a deputy pulled over a vehicle in Arnolds Park for a traffic violation. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle after the Spirit Lake Police Department’s K-9 Unit detected the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle.
The driver, 46-year-old Carolyn Noll of Spencer, was subsequently arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was also cited for having an expired driver’s license.
The Iowa State Patrol also assisted on the scene.
The other stop occurred Sunday when a deputy pulled over a vehicle on County Road M-56. The driver, 50-year-old Morris Stofferan of Hartley, was found to have what’s alleged to be prescription drugs not prescribed to him.
Deputies say a passenger, 37-year-old Brady Griffin also of Hartley, threw an object out the window as the vehicle was being stopped. The object was located by the Spirit Lake Police Department’s K-9 unit and was identified as a pipe used for smoking marijuana.
Stofferan was arrested and charged with possession of prescription drugs; Griffin was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Both men were booked into the Dickinson county jail.
A second passenger, 47-year-old Joseph Stofferan of Sanborn, was cited for open container.
