(Spirit Lake)– Some anxious moments early Saturday afternoon and early Sunday in separate incidents on East Lake Okoboji.
In the first one early Saturday afternoon, search and rescue crews were called to the Highway 9 boat ramp in Spirit Lake after an 18-year-old swimmer was reported missing after having gone into the water off a dock at Stuart’s Landing, or the end of 21st Street in Spirit Lake. A short time after search and rescue crews arrived, the missing swimmer turned up safe and sound at a dock near the Light House.
Authorities say a similar incident took place around 1:00 a.m. Sunday when a swimmer was reported missing from a dock near the Ritz. That person also turned up safe and sound a short time later.
Authorities say the incidents serve as reminders for unsupervised swimmers to be sure to let others know of their plans and let them know where they plan to swim and approximately how long they plan to be in the water.
