(Milford)– The Milford Police Department is mounting a campaign to raise money for a K-9 unit.
Officer Matt Myhre of the Milford Police Department tells KUOO news the K-9 would play a valuable role in searches, tracking suspects as well as missing children and adults; apprehension of fleeing and barricaded criminals; officer protection and crowd control.
Officer Myhre says they’re hoping to raise 15-thousand dollars over the next six months or so. He says that would include the purchase of the dog along with training and other equipment.
Once the money is raised and a dog is selected and obtained, officer Myhre, who will handle the dog, says he and the canine will both undergo training simultaneously.
In addition to the Milford Police Department, Myhre says the canine would also be available to assist neighboring departments and counties upon request.
