Send Off Planned For Local Guard Unit

(Des Moines)– Sendoffs are scheduled for about 110 soldiers in two Iowa National Guard units called up for duty in Afghanistan.

Ceremonies take place Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at Camp Dodge in Johnston for the 185th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and at 3:30 p.m. in Fort Dodge for the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery.

The soldiers will be assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the Iowa Guard’s 134th Infantry Division.

The soldiers will leave for Camp Shelby, Mississippi in late July or early August for additional training before heading to Afghanistan.
