(Wahpeton)– A garage at a residence west of Wahpeton was damaged by fire this (Thurs.) afternoon.
Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says his department was called to the scene at 1661 190th Street in Lakeville Township shortly before 1:30 p.m.
While enroute Carpenter says firefighters could see a large plume of smoke and the Lake Park Fire Department was called for assistance with manpower and hauling water.
Upon arriving, Carpenter says firefighters found the detached two-car garage completely engulfed. No vehicles were in the structure, which was only 10 feet from the home and the vinyl siding and some window blinds in the home were melting, and the glass on two windows had cracked. Carpenter estimates that only a few minutes remained before the home became involved as well.
Firefighters were able to cool the home while bringing the garage fire under control with two hand lines.
Water had to be shuttled to the scene from Wahpeton.
Firefighters were on the scene for a little over an hour and-a-half.
Carpenter says the cause of the blaze isn’t known as of right now.
No injuries were reported.
