(Graettinger)– Authorities say a Graettinger man who had been found lying on a sidewalk in Graettinger Sunday morning died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A person who was delivering newspapers made the discovery shortly after 6:00 a.m.
An investigation by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation resulted in authorities obtaining and executing a search warrant at 204 North Cameron in Graettinger.
Authorities then determined the victim, identified as 66-year-old David Behrends of Graettinger, had been suffering from a long-term medical condition.
An autopsy is being conducted by the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office.
