(Emmetsburg)– An ongoing investigation into burglaries in May in Palo Alto county and the surrounding area has resulted in additional charges against two Emmetsburg men.
The burglaries took place at telephone offices, fire stations, elevator offices and bars. Most occurred in the Graettinger and Ruthven areas.
On June 16th authorities developed information about suspects involved in the burglaries. A joint surveillance operation was set up in cooperation with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office which resulted in deputies capturing two suspects in the act of a burglary at the State Line Coop elevator office in Ringsted. They were identified as 23-year-old Roger Manwarren of Emmetsburg and 20-year-old William Mattingly, also of Emmetsburg.
Following that the investigation has continued and additional charges were filed today (Wednesday 7/28) against the same two men in conjunction with the burglaries in Palo Alto county. Manwarren and Mattingly were both charged with seven counts of burglary in the third degree, a class “D” felony.
Authorities say those charges stem from burglaries May 9th, 2010 to River Valley Telephone offices in Ruthven and Graettinger and the Drive Up Cafe and Graettinger Fire Department; on May 23rd, 2010 to the Ruthven Fire Department; the May 31st, 2010 burglary to the Ayrshire Telephone Company and the June 13th, 2010 burglary to the Blue Moon Bar in Ayrshire.
Both men are currently being held in the Emmet county jail and will be transferred to the Palo Alto county jail at a later date for court appearances.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and area police departments; the Iowa Law Enforcement Intelligence Network, Region 1 Fusion Center; and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
