(Spirit Lake)– It was a busy lunch hour Tuesday for Spirit Lake firefighters.
Fire Chief David Kollasch says firefighters were called to Iowa Lakes Orthopoedics at 2309 23rd Street around 11:46 a.m. after an air handler on the roof overheated and burned out. Kollasch says there was no actual fire, but people inside the business could smell an odor of something hot.
Firefighters stood by on the scene about an hour.
The burned out motor resulted in a phase drop in electricity to the nearby area, including Lakes Regional Healthcare. Kollasch says a ventilation problem triggered an alarm when the hospital’s generator kicked in. Kollasch says the alarm went off a couple of times, prompting calls to firefighters who checked it out as a precaution. Kollasch says it was simply a matter of re-setting the alarm each time.
