(Rembrandt)– A multi-vehicle collision Wednesday in Buena Vista county claimed one life and resulted in multiple injuries.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around Noon Wednesday at the intersection of County Road C25 and Highway 71.
Authorities say 15-year-old Cole Moens of Albert City pulled out from a stop sign at Highway 71 and pulled into the path of a semi loaded with rock being driven by 60-year-old Douglas Oldenkamp of Sheldon. The impact caused the Moens vehicle to be thrown into the path of another car driven by 69-year-old Lee Geisinger of Laurens.
Authorities say the semi continued north and collided head-on with a southbound semi. The driver of the south-bound semi was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name hadn’t been released pending notification of relatives.
Those injured included Moens and a passenger in his vehicle, 15-year-old Branden Bailey; Oldenkamp; and Geisinger and a passenger in his vehicle, 52-year-old Alice Geisinger of Laurens. All were taken to a Storm Lake hospital with serious injuries.
Mechanical means were used to extricate victims from the Geisinger and Moens vehicles.
The crash remains under investigation by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
