Stolen Van Report Results In Charges Against Two Suspects

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– A report of a stolen van has resulted in the arrests of two suspects in the case.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report of a stolen van shortly after 6:00 p.m. back on July 16th of this year. The van had been reported stolen sometime that night from a residence in Graettinger. It was found abandoned west of Ruthven on Highway 18 in Clay county.

A joint investigation that also involved authorities in Clay and Buena Vista counties resulted in warrants being issued for 18-year-old Levi Shuck of Rembrandt and 20-year-old Alex Arndt of Dickens.

Arndt was arrested Sunday by a Clay county deputy on the Palo Alto county warrant. He posted the 10-thousand dollar cash or surety bond.

A detainer was placed on Shuck who remains in the Buena Vista county jail on similar charges.

Both Arndt and Shuck were charged with second degree theft…a class “D” felony.

The van, owned by Jody and Andrew Hampson of Graettinger, sustained mechanical damage and was declared a total loss.
