DNR Commission Votes Down Proposed Ban On Booze At State Park Beaches

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– A state panel has rejected a booze ban at popular state park beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes Area during the Fourth of July Holiday.

Park rangers say things have gotten out of control with rowdy behavior, especially at Gull Point State Park on West Lake Okoboji.

The Iowa Natural Resources Commission voted four-to-three against the alcohol ban Thursday at a meeting in Mount Pleasant.

Pat Boddy is the acting director of the Department of Natural Resources. He says a majority of commissioners appeared to believe the proposed ban unfairly targeted young adults and intruded on civil liberties.
