Car Collides Head-On With Semi; Sibley Man Killed

November 22, 2014

(Primghar)– A head-on crash Friday on Highway 59 in O’Brien county claimed the life of a Sibley man.

The Iowa State Patrol says 20-year-old Samuel Kruger of Sibley was driving a 2004 Pontiac northbound when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 1996 Freightliner semi driven by 24-year-old Lucas Lodermeier of Ames.

Kruger was pronounced dead at the scene; Lodermeier was treated on the scene by paramedics and released.

Troopers say Lodermeier attempted to brake and steered left to try to avoid the collision. The semi and a trailer it was pulling loaded with cattle overturned. Some of the cattle were located in a nearby field; others are still missing.

The crash took place shortly after 6:00 p.m. Friday.

The State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
