(Jackson, Mn.)– Jackson, Minnesota has a new Mayor as a result of Tuesday’s election.
Incumbent Mitch Jasper was defeated by challenger Wayne Walter. Walter received 906 votes while Jasper received 446.
For city council, Dennis Hunwardsen defeated Brad Perkins for the ward one seat and incumbent Ken Temple defeated challenger Chris Vee for the second ward seat.
In Lakefield, Bruce Bakalyar and Andrea Monson were elected to two open seats on the city council, defeating two others who were seeking the positions.
In Wilder, Shane Bramstedt was elected Mayor over Kenny Hunter.
Luke Henning, Rhonda Moore and Holli Arp were elected to the Jackson County Central School Board. Three others were also running for the seats.
Roger Ringkob defeated Dennis Edwards for the district four seat on the Jackson County Board of Commissioners; Becky McCann was elected County Recorder, defeating Bette Williams; and Kevin Nordquist defeated Ben Pribyl in a race for County Auditor/Treasurer.
In Emmet county, Jon Martyr, a former Spirit Lake Police Chief who now lives in Estherville, and Ron Smith, were elected to two open seats on the board of supervisors, defeating two other candidates. Tim Schumacher defeated three other candidates to fill a vacancy on the board.
In Clay county, voters in the city of Spencer narrowly defeated a proposal that would have extended the term of Mayor from two years to four. 1,758 were against the proposal while 1,670 were in favor. Meanwhile, voters narrowly approved a measure to increase the city’s hotel/motel tax from five percent to seven. 1,795 were in favor while 1,622 were opposed.
