Dickinson Co. Re-District Commission To Consist Of 7 Members

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There was additional discussion at Tuesday’s Dickinson county board of supervisors meeting over the make-up of a commission that will oversee the re-drawing of new supervisor districts.

The county must follow a process similar to that of the state which is redrawing congressional and legislative districts based on the findings of the latest census data.

The board of supervisors Tuesday voted unanimously for a seven-member re-districting commission. Committee members will be appointed by the board of supervisors at their May 10th meeting. A person must be registered to vote in Dickinson county and can either be a Republican, Democrat or Independent in order to serve on the commission.

The commission’s duties will be to draw a new map consisting of five districts for the board of supervisors, with nearly the same population.

Several supervisors say they’ve already been receiving phone calls from people wanting to serve on the commission.
