(Estherville)– Emmet county authorities have released additional details into a single-vehicle crash over the weekend that claimed the life of a rural Estherville woman.
The victim, 32-year-old Amanda Acord-Polzin, was a passenger in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup that rolled over at the intersection of 120th Street and 560th Avenue in Emmet county Saturday evening. Deputies say Acord-Polzin was ejected from the vehicle and died of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities say they were notified of the crash shortly after 7:00 p.m., but upon investigating they discovered it had actually occurred about an hour earlier.
They also learned the vehicle was being driven by Jason Polzin of rural Estherville and that Polzin and another passenger, 33-year-old Jeremy Polzin Armstrong, the driver’s brother, had both left the scene. Jason Polzin was later located by a deputy and was arrested and charged with driver of the vehicle with leaving the scene of a fatal accident…a class “D” felony. He was booked into the Emmet county jail on a $100,000 cash only bond.
Authorities say the body of Amanda Acord-Polzin has been transferred to the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says the investigation continues and that additional charges are likely.
