No Injuries And No Hazardous Spills Reported In Train Derailment

November 22, 2014

(Brewster, Mn.)– No injuries were reported and no hazardous chemicals were reported spilled in a train derailment Monday evening northeast of Brewster.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the Union Pacific train was headed southwest around 8:30 p.m. when it jumped the rails southwest of County Road 20 along Highway 60. Officials say about 20 cars, most of them empty, left the tracks.

The Brewster, Okabena and Heron Lake Fire Departments and Heron Lake and Worthington ambulances responded to the scene, but again there were no injuries and nothing hazardous leaked from any of the cars.

The Union Pacific Railroad says the cause of the derailment is under investigation.

The Minnesota State Patrol and the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on the scene.
