Wehrspann says they chose peanut butter and jelly because they are staple food items and peanut butter is widely considered a good substitute for meat when meat isn’t available as it contains seven of the eight essential amino acids.
1,400 to 1,500 pounds of peanut butter and jelly was collected last year through the program. They hope to surpass that this year.
