Lyon County Collision Results In Charges Against Two People

November 22, 2014

(George)– A collision Saturday involving a semi and a pickup in Lyon county sent one person to the hospital and resulted in charges against two people.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Dennis Post of Rock Valley was driving a 2003 Freightliner semi eastbound on County Road A-34 and 28-year-old Cesar Segura of Sibley was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup westbound. Authorities say Segura crossed the center line and was sideswiped by the semi. Post was able to control the semi, which came to rest on the roadway. The pickup Segura was driving went into the south ditch, traveled through a fence,  and came to rest in a soybean field.

Segura was taken to Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids. He was later arrested and charged with driving with no driver’s license, crossing the center line and failure to have insurance. Authorities say additional charges are pending as alcohol was also allegedly a factor.

Authorities say a passenger in Segura’s vehicle, Antonio Mares of Sibley, fled the scene on foot. He was found a short time later by a Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy. Mares was arrested and charged with falsifying public documents…a class “D” felony…for having a fake I.D. and Social Security card.

$10,000 in damage was estimated to the semi, owned by Hartland Farms of Doon; the pickup was totaled.

The collision took place shortly before 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the George Fire Depatment and George Rescue.
