(Des Moines)– It was announced today (Thurs.) that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 62 Iowa counties as part of a Secretarial Natural Disaster Designation. 35 of those counties are listed as primary disaster areas. Locally, they area Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, O’Brien, Oseola and Pocahontas.
Farmers in counties that are contiguous to those, including locally Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, Palo Alto and Plymouth, are also eligible for assistance.
Producers in those counties that have suffered a loss due to a natural disaser are eligible to apply for FSA emergency loans.
Due to the various designations that have been made, farmers are being urged to contact their local FSA office to determine the application deadline that applies to them.
