Linn Grove Man Pleads Guilty To Firearm Charge

(Sioux City)– A Linn Grove man has pled guilty to possessing a firearm after having been convicted of two previous felonies.

57-year-old Terry Wirkus of Linn Grove entered the plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Sioux City. During the plea hearing, Wirkus admitted he possessed a .22 caliber rifle and that he was a twice convicted felon.

According to information presented at a change of plea hearing, an investigation revealed that on June 28th, 2011 law enforcement received a report regarding some harassing phone calls and text messages being received from Wirkus. The caller also revealed that Wirkus had a gun hanging on his living room wall. On July 1st, 2011 a search warrant was executed at Wirkus’ home that resulted in authorities finding a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition.

Sentencing will be held once a presentence report is complete. Wirkus remains free on bail previously set. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
