(Sibley)—A single-vehicle crash Sunday on Highway 60 a half mile south of Sibley claimed the life of one man and injured several others.
The Iowa State Patrol says 28-year-old Christopher Kadlec of McGrath, Minnesota was driving a 1997 Chevrolet van when he became confused over the direction of his travel and mistook the northbound Highway 60 on ramp for a southbound highway. Authorities say Kadlec then failed to negotiate a curve and the vehicle went into the ditch where it rolled. Troopers say Kadlec and three passengers who weren’t wearing seatbelts were either completely or partially ejected from the vehicle.
A passenger, 29-year-old Nicholas Carlson of Sturgion Lake, Minnesota, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kadlec and three other passengers, 54-year-old Mark Brune of Hinckley, Minnesota; 23-year-old Donald Nelson of Stanchfield, Minnesota and 24-year-old Chay Brune of Hinckley, Minnesota were all taken by ambulance to the Osceola County Hospital in Sibley. There was no immediate information available regarding the extent of their injuries or condition.
A damage estimate to the van also wasn’t immediately available.
The crash took place around 8:30 p.m.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and the Sibley Fire Department.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
