(Milford)—Another reminder about the very high grass fire danger the area is experiencing right now.
As we reported yesterday (Mon.), several area fire departments have been busy in recent days battling grass fires. Milford Fire Chief Jim Carpenter says his department battled multiple grass fires Saturday afternoon and again yesterday (Mon.) west of Wahpeton and east of Milford. Carpenter says in one incident Saturday afternoon, a house was in jeopardy. He says several power poles were damaged in the fires both Saturday and yesterday (Mon.) and had to be replaced.
Area fire chiefs again remind the public that the dead vegetation left over from last season can cause a fire to rapidly spread. They say the recent rains have not been enough to completely wet it down and that new growth hasn’t become established yet.
They say anyone planning to do any open burning should pay close attention to the weather forecast, especially for any change in the winds. They should also contact the Dickinson County Communications Center at 336-2525 before starting any fires.
