Popular Lakes Area Campground Reopens Just In Time For The 4th

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– The campground at Emerson Bay State Recreation Area on the southwest side of West Lake Okoboji has reopened following a renovation project that took nearly a year.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says word spread Sunday night that the campground would open on Monday and people were camping out in line to secure a campsite.

Demand for the campground has traditionally been high because it is adjacent to a popular boat ramp.

Construction crews removed trees and brush, installed new electrical lines, camping pads and living spaces, and remodeled the older restroom/shower building.

The DNR says the campground has fewer campsites but more sites with electricity. Now, 82 sites have power and 23 of those also offer water and sewer connections.
