Workshop To Address Bur Oak Trees

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)—An upcoming workshop on Bur Oak Trees, the predominant tree of the Iowa Great Lakes, will focus on Bur Oak Blight  and how serious a threat it’s posing to the stately trees, many of which have been around in the Iowa Great Lakes for hundreds of years.

Organizers of the July 27th workshop at Lakeside Lab say the workshop will focus on the disease as well as on how to maintain oak trees. Presenters are Dr. Thomas Harrington, an authority on Bur Oak Blight, and Peter van der Linden, author of the book Forest and Shade Trees of Iowa.

The workshop will begin at 1:00 that afternoon in Mahan Hall at Lakeside Lab on the west side of West Lake Okoboji. It’s free of charge and open to all interested persons, but those planning to attend are asked to pre-register as seating will be limited. The number to call is 337-3669, Ext. 5; or you can pre-register by email to Peter-vanderlinden@uiowa.edu. Be sure to include your contact information and the number of people coming with you.
