(Spirit Lake)—Two Spirit Lake grocery stores were honored today (Mon.) for achieving Blue Zones status. Fareway and Hy-Vee were both officially recognized for completing various pledge actions. Among other things, the stores have put up additional signage alerting customers to better food options and offering customers opportunities to learn about healthy cooking.
Restaurants, businesses, individuals and school and city officials are also being encouraged to adopt Blue Zones concepts.
Spirit Lake is one of 19 Blue Zones Project demonstration sites in Iowa.
