Longtime Employee Of UDMO Stepping Down

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—A longtime employee of Upper Des Moines Opportunity is stepping down.

Laurie Ruuf is retiring effective July 31st. Her last day officially on the job is today (Wed.) Ruuf tells KUOO news how she got her start with the agency some 22 years ago…(click here for comment.)  “I actually had a board member tell me they had an opening in Osceola county and said I think you’d be good for this, why don’t you apply? So I did and 22 years later and two more counties later here I am.”

Ruuf says while there’s a lot she’s going to miss about the job, there’s one thing in particular that sticks out…(click here for comment.) “The standard phrase: the people, and that’s true. The people that I work with, who really do the work, and all the providers in this area. I wish the rest of the state, Des Moines, could just look at our area. They could do a lot of modeling after our area. We all get along very well. We do wonderful programs and the services are terrific because the people that deliver them up here are terrific.”

An open house was held in Ruuf’s honor this morning at the Spirit Lake UDMO office.
