Spirit Lake, Emmetsburg Finish On Top, With Okoboji, HMS On Losing End (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

November 23, 2014

A rough shooting night that including a collective 6-for-24 effort at the free throw line contributed to the Okoboji girls basketball team falling 57-28 at George-Little Rock on Tuesday in Siouxland Conference play. Faith Bartlett was the lone Pioneers player in double figures, scoring thirteen points. Okoboji drops to 4-9 overall and 3-8 in league play. They host Sioux Center on Friday, a matchup that will air on Q102.

Spirit Lake girls tallied a second-straight non-conference win in as many nights Tuesday, defeating visiting Worthington by a 62-53 final. The Indians took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Trojans by eleven. KJ Veldman used a 10-for-10 effort at the free throw line to propel her way to 24 points in the game. Kendra Stokke had seven points, ten rebounds. Spirit Lake improves to 9-3 overall, while Worthington drops to 9-4. Spirit Lake returns to action Friday when Spencer comes to town, a Lakes Conference contest that can be heard on KUOO.

A lackluster first half by both squads ended with a seven-point victory for the visiting E-Hawks in the girls’ ballgame, 36-29. Paige Naig finished with eleven points for Emmetsburg. HMS got eleven points, all in the fourth quarter, from Jessica Stofferan. The Hawks fall to 5-6 on the year, with the home game against MMC set for Friday. The E-Hawks improve to 7-5 and travel to Cherokee for a conference matchup Friday on Y100.
