Okoboji Volleyball At The ELC Tournament

Okoboji competed at the ELC invite yesterday. It was a six team round robin tournament. We ended the day 3-2, but played some really good volleyball through the day. We were able to capture wins over HLP, Sheldon and GTRA. We lost to ELC in two and Emmetsburg in three.

Scores vs HLP were 21-6, 15-21 and 15-6. I thought we really commanded the control the first set. It was great to see all the attackers clicking with our setter and we were able to serve tough and really keep them out of system. In set two we definitely let off the gas pedal and made a few unforced errors/serve errors that cost us the set. We regained control in set three to take the match. It was nice to see our girls rebound and get the win after losing set two.

Sheldon Match: 9-21, 21-19 and 16-14I was so proud of our girls for avenging their loss in conference play. We were slow off the bat in set one and were not in system much at all. We rebounded in set two and were able to make some great defensive plays to keep us in the match. I was pleased to see us come out and finally win a tight couple of sets as we had been struggling on the finishing aspect of things.

GTRA: 21-13, 18-21, 17-15We played after our Sheldon match and rode the high through the first set. We did serve well and kept them out of system a lot. The second set GTRA was able to get into system more. We struggled to adjust just because we were used to getting free balls from them in the first set. We also missed 5 serves in set two, which is more than the difference in points. Set three we were a little gutsy and were able to pull out the win by staying on the aggressive side on all attacks/serves.

ELC: 12-21, 18-21ELC was a tough match for us. We struggled to defend Nissen and they did serve us really tough. I was happy with how we rebounded in set two, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to overcome our errors to win the set. You could tell we were starting to get tired and just didn’t communicate as much as we needed to on the floor.

Emmetsburg: 21-16, 17-21, 9-15Emmetsburg is a very solid squad. We were able to take control off the first set once we got to about the 10-10 mark. We found their holes and kept them out of system. In set two, it was very much back and forth the whole game. We just made a few unforced errors down the stretch with being in the net and missing serves that cost us the set. In set three, you could see the exhaustion wearing on our girls. Emmetsburg was able to take advantage of that as we didn’t have a solid block up most of the set.

A few overall stats on the day:
Riley Meyer – 49 digs
Alexa Christoffels – 21 digs, 87 assists, 8 aces
Celeste DeVos – 25 digs, 30 kills
Harper Rabel and Grace Leman – 24 kills each
