Comments From Spirit Lake Girls Track Coach Kyle Zankowski
“This was the best night of Track and Field to date. There are so many awesome things I want to mention but I think the most important thing is how sharp these athletes are when it comes to competing for the sake of competing, toeing the line, and fighting through discomfort. These skills have definitely been worked on and applied throughout the season, but today they were mastered! I can’t wait to see where we can go moving forward, and where these athletes go throughout their athletic careers and in life. If myself or any coach that works with these athletes can represent Spirit Lake half as well as these girls do, we would be hall of fame coaches in no time. These girls make us better coaches!
Comments From Spirit Lake Boys Coach Brad Travis
“When all of us coaches sat down and worked on the line-up, on paper the meet was going to be close. But leave it to a bunch of young men to win the meet by 42.5 points over 2nd. Track meets like this are by far my favorite as it truly shows how everyone matters and every point counts. The challenge laid before our guys tonight was to do your best when your event was up. Considering that every event scored tonight and every running event had both boys competing in that event; score, I’d say they rose to the challenge. Varsity to JV our boys seemingly PR’d at every turn. Scoring to only 6 in individuals and 5 in relays it was a sight to behold to watch them amass 163. That is an extremely impressive total as our Lakes Conf. Record is 169pts, but that was by scoring 8 (10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1) and with more points for each place compared to the now 6 places (8,6,4,3,2,1).
