GT/RA’s Murphy Signs With ILCC

Iowa Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach, Katie King, announced the signing of Myla Murphy to the 2023-2024 recruiting class. Myla is the daughter of Travis Murphy and attends Graettinger Terril- Ruthven Ayrshire.

“We would like to welcome Myla and her family to the Iowa Lakes Softball family,” said Coach King. “Myla is the perfect addition to our strong 2023 class. Athletically, she fits right into the style of play that we like, speed. She has the ability to steal any base she wants and has many tools at the plate, which is going to make her a tough out.”

As an outfielder for the Titans, Murphy has lettered three times and has one season left to go. In the past two seasons, Murphy has a .476 batting average, going 89 for 187 at the plate. She has compiled ten doubles and two triples. On the base paths, she has impressively stolen 116/120 bases, for a 96% successful stolen base percentage. She was the leader in the state of Iowa (all classes) in cumulative stolen bases sophomore and junior seasons. For her efforts, Murphy has received many awards. In her sophomore season, she was a 1A All-State Honorable Mention selection, Northwest Iowa All-District team selection, and 1st Team Twin Lakes Conference selection. In her junior campaign, Murphy was selected to the 1A All-State Honorable Mention Team and Twin Lakes Conference 1st Team. Murphy also holds many GTRA softball records, including career stolen bases (140) and single-season stolen bases (61), walks (25), hits (47), singles (41), on-base percentage (.557), plate appearances (120), and runs (49).

As to why she chose Iowa Lakes, Murphy had this to say, “I chose Iowa Lakes because it felt like the family aspect I was looking for in a college. I felt welcomed into the softball program with open arms and treated like I was already a part of their softball family.”

As much success as Murphy has found on the softball diamond, she has also found it in other sports and in the classroom. Murphy is a three-time letter winner in both volleyball and track. She is a state championship medal winner in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 4x200m relay for a total of five medals. Murphy is also a ten-time all-conference selection in track. In the classroom, Murphy has been awarded All-Academic honors for each sport she has played throughout her entire high school career.

Coach King also had this to say, “I think the thing I love most about Myla is her passion for the game and the love she has for each of her teammates. When you walk up to a field, your eyes cannot help but watch her. She gets excited for every positive thing her team does. Whether it be her own success or her teammates’ success, she is excited. I am really looking for her to bring that energy and love for the game to this program. We cannot wait to see what Myla can do in the blue and gold next year!”
