Win Gives SLP-O Third Place in Class 2A

Saturday’s 3-1 win over ADM, Adel in the Class 2A Consolation Game capped a record-setting season for Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji boys soccer. SLP-O, which finished fourth overall in 2011, earns the third place trophy and matches the 15 wins from a year ago. Momentum was seized early as Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji senior Drew Brevik tallied his first goal of the season in the game’s second minute. The squads two forwards partnered up for the final two scoring strikes. Kade Heikens converted a centering pass from Casey Jones in the 25th minute to make it 2-0. Then Heikens set up senior Zubeen Azari for the third goal and Azari’s 35th of the season. The Tigers prevented the shutout with a late goal in the final six minutes from Jonah Waldron. He and Azari will finish the season in the top three in scoring for the entire state. Keith Oskvig made seven saves in goal, and combined with the defense ahead of him to thwart eleven cornerkicks for ADM, which finishes with a 17-6 record. SLP-O went 15-3-2 overall.
