University of Okoboji Homecoming Events

The 36th Annual University of Okoboji Homecoming is this weekend July 19th thru July 21st in the Iowa Great Lakes.  The University of Okoboji Marathon will begin this Saturday morning bright and early at 6 AM at Arnolds Park Amusement Park.  Many Marathon entrants from across the United States are entered as a step on their goal of completing a marathon in all 50 states.
 

Other events include the University of Okoboji Triathlon at 7 AM from Arnolds Park Amusement Park.  The Half-Marathon at 8 AM from the Wahpeton City Park on Highway 86.  The 10K from the Methodist camp at 9 AM.  Entrants are encouraged to get there entries in as soon as possible as all registration closes 5 PM Thursday July 18th.  Runners can register online at www.threesons.com, please click on the “Marathon Link.”  

Founder and Director for Life, Bob Rose of Spencer Iowa, expects one of the best turnouts ever.  Finish line for all events is the State Pier in front of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.  Everyone is encouraged to cheer the runners along the course or at the finish line.  The awards ceremony will be at 11 AM Saturday at the State Pier finish line.

 

Thanks to “Keep Okoboji Blue” for providing the FREE live entertainment in Preservation Plaza.  Saturday night’s concert is “Enemy Planes” with “Bright Giant” opening.  Saturday evening is also the Mau Marine Sunset Boat Parade followed by Fireworks at 10:15 over West Lake Okoboji.

The University of Okoboji Environmental Dive begins this Saturday at 9 AM.  Headquarters for this event, which helps to keep the bottom of our campus clean, is at Blue Water Divers, Arnolds Park.  Director Dave Swanson expects scuba divers from throughout the Mid-West to compete in various categories; Most Historic, Most Unusual, Most Number of Items, and Most Weight.  Everyone is invited to observe the progress of the dive in front of Blue Water Divers on the lakefront in Arnolds Park.

 

Other Homecoming activities include Sail Boat Races, Fishing, Tennis, Bicycle Trail Rides, and the Okoboji Summer Theater’s Production of “I Hate Hamlet.”  The only required course this Homecoming week is a cruise on the Queen II and a tour of the Maritime Museum, located next to the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.  Extra credit courses are offered for attendance at Arnolds Park.  You are also invited to join all Campus Fraternities and Sororities for their Homecoming activities and parties.
 

Director of Admissions, Roger Stolley, reminds students that there is “No School” on Monday.
