The Spencer and Spirit Lake Softball teams were tied at 2,
heading into the bottom of the 4th, last night, when the Indians
took the lead for good thanks to freshman MacKenzie Thate’s fourth home run of
the year.
Rachel Gerking on Thate’s hard work
That’s Spirit Lake Coach Rachel Gerking, whose team got six
strikeouts and a win on the mound from freshman pitcher Bailee Newman.
Newman was 2-for-4, at the plate, for Spirit Lake,
with a single and a double. Thate was
3-for-4 with two singles to go along with her homerun.
Spirit
Lake is now 6-5, and are
home tonight against Sioux Central, Sioux Rapids. It’s a busy week for the Indians, who follow
tonight’s game up with a home game against LeMars on Wednesday. They travel to North
Union, on Thursday, host Estherville-Lincoln Central on Friday,
and then will play three games in a tournament on Saturday.
