Spirit Lake picked up conference wins in girls and boys basketball Tuesday night in a pair of home games with Storm Lake. For the girls, Spirit Lake put the game away early, leading 47-7 at the half, allowing most of the starters to rest in the second half on the way to a 64-16 win. Emma Dau was the leading scorer for the Indians with 12, all coming in the first half. Carter Hassel also finished in double figures with 11. Spirit Lake improves to 11-3, 7-1 in the Lakes Conference. They have now won 8 games in a row.
The Spirit Lake boys jumped out to an early 14 point lead, but Storm Lake battled back to get within 6. However the Indians were too much in the end, pulling away for a 73-53 win over the Tornadoes. Alec Henrickson had 29 for Spirit Lake, Billy Brown 20 and Trevor Smith 17. Storm Lake was paced by Yach Deng with 29. The Indians are now 10-3, and 5-3 in league play.
