Despite winning time of possesion, total yards, and total plays it was the big plays of Western Christian that proved to be to much for Emmetsburg as HWC beat Emmetsburg 41-21 in Class 1A postseason football. Emmetsburg would score first on a 2 yard touchdown run by Greg Wesley at 7:12 to go in the 1st. After the kickoff, Western’s next play was a 66 yard pass from Tyson Kooima to tie it up at 7. After an Emmetsburg 3 & out, Western got the ball back and drove down the field and scored again. Emmetsburg would put together a great drive late in 2nd quarter scoring a touchdown pass with 25 seconds to go in the half to tie it up at 14. On the very next kickoff, Hull Western Christian returned the kick 8o yards for the score to take away the momentum and lead 21-14 at half. The wolfpack would continue to score in the second half and led 41-14 until 38 seconds left when Greg Wesley scored his 3 TD of the night to finish the game.
Emmetsburg ran 78 plays compared to 33 plays from Western Christian. The E’hawks also won time of possesion with 34:25 compated to HWC’s 13:35. Emmetsburg also outgained them 345-254 and had 23 first downs compared to 11. The E’hawks were led by Greg Wesley. He rushed the ball 46 times for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns and also caught 1 ball for 9 yards and a TD. Emmetsburg finishes the season at 6 – 4 while HWC improves to 6 – 4 and will be in the 2nd round of the playoffs on Monday.
