Spirit Lake wins at Okoboji in football opener
In a game heard on KUOO, defending class 2A state champ Spirit Lake outpaced Okoboji 63-0. The starting unit for the Indians were on the field for a half, with junior quarterback Alec Henrickson going 7 for 14 for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Indians also brought a balanced running game, led by junior Josh Hofstra carrying 9 times for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns. In all, Spirit Lake had 449 yards of offense. Okoboji sophomore quarterback Alex Heller was called upon heavily, attempting 30 passes on the night, completing 14 for 146 yards, but did throw 4 interceptions. Spirit lake will play host to Storm Lake Friday night in their home opener, who also got a win last week over Cherokee 27-12. We will have that game for you on KUOO. On Q102 next Friday, Okoboji returns to their home field against Sibley Ocheyden, who will come into that game 1-0 after getting past Hartley Melvin Sanborn last Friday night 13-12.
