Spirit Lake Softball Defeats Emmetsburg In Season Finale

The Spirit Lake softball team ended the regular season with just one conference loss and that was to Emmetsburg.  They would avenge that loss on Monday night beating the E'hawks 9 - 5.  It was two big innings for Spirit Lake that propelled them to the win.  They scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 runs in the 4th inning to finish the regular season at 20 - 8 and 13 - 1 in the lakes conference.  Emmetsburg would finish the regular season at 17 - 11 and 8 - 6 in the conference.
On Monday, the E'hawks would get 5 runs on 9 hits as Ashton Connelly and Michaela Rehm were both 2 - 4.  Connelly had 2 RBI's and Rehm had 1.  Spirit Lake would collect 9 runs on 10 hits and were led by Mackenzie Thate as she went 3 - 4 with 6 RBI's and was a triple shy of the cycle.  The winning pitcher was Bailee Newman going 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 3 and walking 2.  The losing pitcher was Ashton Connelly going 6 innings giving up 9 runs on 10 hits while striking out 8 and walking 4.
Spirit Lake goes into the postseason with a record of 20 - 8 and will host Sheldon Tuesday July 8th at 7 PM on KUOO.  Emmetsburg is 17 - 11 and will host Pocahontas Tuesday July 8th at 7 PM on Y 100.
