Spirit Lake Rolls Over East Sac in 2nd Round

The impressive season for Spirit Lake continued Monday night with a 33-point victory over the East Sac County Raiders in the second round of the 2A playoffs.

Austin Folsom had a big night for the Indians, and it began in the first quarter with an 8-yard touchdown reception from Alec Henrickson. The Raiders answered with a touchdown of their own on the first play of the second quarter, a 15-yard touchdown reception by Michael Halbur from Ty Jacobsen.

From there, the Indians started to roll, adding four touchdowns before the half. Trevor Jensen had a 65-yard touchdown reception, Henrickson ran for a 16-yard touchdown, Tyler Jenness added a 3 yard touchdown carry, and Mike Meschede capped off an impressive second quarter for the Indians with a 28-yard touchdown reception. The Indians led 33-7 at the half.

The Raiders scored first in the second half, as Austin Brown caught a 5-yard touchdown pass. Spirit Lake added two more scores in the third quarter. Josh Hofstra carried it into the end zone from 4 yards out and Austin Folsom caught a 92 yard bomb from Henrickson.

Each team added a score in the final quarter, Hofstra with an 18-yard carry for the Indians and Kody Roth with a 20-yard touchdown reception for the Raiders.

Monday’s game was East Sac County’s first ever game in the second round of the postseason and Spirit Lake proved to be too much for the Raiders to handle. The Indians rolled to the 54-21 win and will play in the quarterfinals on Friday night with a trip to the dome on the line.

Spirit Lake will host Sioux Center on Friday after the Warriors knocked off #1 Clear Lake 20-14.

Spirit Lake defeated Sioux Center 20-14 when the two teams met on October 3rd.
