comments from boys coach Royce Van Roekel...
We lost in overtime 4-3. It was a great game for the fans to watch as there were many good goals. We quickly went up in the game that I would say we controlled the majority of. Ben Meyer had a great shot that Zach Birchland finished to put us up 1-0. We had a penalty kick called on us shortly after that was on the weaker side, but allowed them to tie it up.
I had gone to watch MOC on Friday and we knew exactly their strengths and weaknesses, and unfortunately we could not stop their Strengths. We did a poor job marking and allowed them to score their second goal before the first half.
We were able to come out of the half and get our tying goal from another Ben Meyer goal but unfortunately gave them their third goal by not marking their target man Stefan Kinsinger. We never quit though as we were able to claw back with a late goal with about 2.5 minutes left from Zach Birckland.
This took us into overtime for our third time this year and we made a mistake in handling a ball in the back, and added the insult of our goalkeeper slipping on the wet surface gave us no chance to stop their game winning goal about 4 minutes into the overtime.
We played really well I think and are even making the right adjustments throughout the game, we merely need to cut down on our mistakes. It is a game of mistakes and who will overcome them and if we continue to improve and cut down on our mistakes, we will continue to be a threat to the best teams in the state by the end of the year.
